Inauguration Site

Sgiath Gabhra - the inauguration site of the Maguires

Sgiath Gabhra was the royal inauguration site for the Maguire Chieftains of Fermanagh from the 13th century onwards.

The use of this mound for royal inauguration is documented in the 16th century poem Trí Coin Chosnus Clú Gaoidhel by Uilliam Óg Mac an Bhaird -
"The poets of Ireland go to the rath as to the mound of Tara; they travel to Gowra (Sgiath Gabhra) from the rest of Ireland."
